Memories: Friendly Gestures

12 Sep

The first night after beating up some Green water in Utah we pulled into the closest campground we could find.  Very few inhabitants but it wasn’t long after setting up and starting the food that a lonely looking fool came strolling over looking to chat about life and fishing.  Although it turned out to be can I bum a cigarette, beer, food, and drink.  Being the gracious host we are it was fairly easy, although annoying to oblige his requests.  This 50+ year old was fishing his way north or south, I can’t remember to his 30-ish high school reunion.  He seemed as if he was at a point in his life where he was going to A.  Invite one of us or all of us to come see his shiny new axe and begin chopping us into little pieces to use as fish bait.  B.  Invite one of us (probably dave, he seemed to really like Nymph-O) and be forced to play doctor in his cozy tent full of stuffed animals and lollipops.  C.  Reliving his younger days traveling out of a pack and fishing daylight till dark before his wife and kids came along and sucked the life out of him.  My vote was on A, he just had that crazy look in his eyes.  I think that’s why we filled him full of beers, cigarettes and food.
